FIVE Months From Today

My solo show at the Anderson Art Center in Kenosha, Wisconsin will have an opening reception.
That’s January 29, 2017!!!!!!
The title of the show is Ice Tapestries and Shibori Quilts.
They do a very lovely reception for the opening.

Wurlitzer finished
WURLITZER
The hours of the show are Tuesday through Sunday 1-4 p.m.
The show runs through from January 29, 2017 through March 19, 2017.
There is no admission charge.
I will have over 80 quilts in the show. They all are made from fabric I created from fabric that started out as white fabric.
Candace Hoffman, the curator,  does an amazing job of hanging a show and their lighting is done by an expert to show each piece to it’s best advantage.
Hope I see you there!

Once Upon A Time….A Very Long Time Ago…..

image
I taught Cake Decorating at our local technical college. These decorations were made with royal icing. It gets hard and lasts forever,
They were in the cupboard above the refrigerator for years. We figured they are at least 40 years old and look just like the day I made them!
image
This container holds roses, buds, ruffled flowers, baby booties, baskets, birds, grapes, leaves and more flowers. The advantage of making things with royal icing is they can be made ahead and put on a cake at a moments notice. They are not soft and creamy like the decorations made with buttercream icing which must be made and used right away.
image
This container has things made with much stronger colors. Lots more flowers and some Christmas things.

This is a close-up of some of the Christmas decorative items.

This close-up shares some of the roses and buds and the birds.
When I made a batch of royal icing I would make up a lot of things to use up the entire batch. That is why I had so many of these years later. It has been years since I have decorated a cake. I would not even use these anymore even though they would be safe to eat.
My idea in getting them out of the cupboard was to dispose of them but I just can’t make myself throw them away. I wonder if there is anything I could do with them?
This was the last step in the recent reorganizing and purging things from my kitchen cabinets. It was the last cupboard to be gone through. It’s a good feeling to have that job finished.
I may just have to put these back in that empty cupboard for another 40 years!

Family Pizza And Music In The Gazebo

It has been two weeks since this took place. It has taken me this long to post the photos as they ALL needed a lot of editing.

Everyone had a great time. The pizza was delicious as usual and the music was so enjoyable.
It's always a special time when we can get family together.

This Post Is A Rerun And We Will Be Rerunning The Same Family Get Together This Evening!

image
Last week Greg, Julie and the family were here for a visit. We were able to get the most of Jeff’s family over while they were here. We had a pizza party on the gazebo – yes, all 11 of us in the 12 x 12 foot space! image Jeff has just said to Greg “You look like the young version of Dad and I look like the old version of Dad!”

The cousins had a great time playing the guitars and ukelele.

Do you see a resemblance between Jeff and Jeff Jr?

Nick is a “little” taller than cousin Heidi!

Although Blake missed the get together, he surprised me Friday night. I was up in the studio working and heard someone come in. I figured it was Greg’s family. Blake drove down after work so he could spend time with the relatives. It was a wonderful family time with perfect weather.
