CHASING RAINBOWS 4 - Closeups

This quilt is a difficult on to show all the details on it in a full length picture.
I took 3 different photos which will allow you to see the details of the stitching and the colors more clearly.

SAVE THE DATE! JANUARY 29, 2017

ICE DYED TAPESTRIES AND SHIBORI QUILTS
Peach firstie dye

This is the  date of the opening reception for my show. I hope I will see you there!
WHERE?
Anderson Art Center, 121 66th Street, Kenosha, WI
The show will run through March 19, 2017.
I will be sharing more information about the show closer to the date, but I know some of you will be coming from a distance and/or want to put it on your calendar so it doesn’t conflict with anything else.
I have earned the title QUEEN OF ICE.
Each one of my pieces is unique and does not mimic the others.
This will be a very large show with 70-80 new pieces of my work never shown before and will fill the entire Art Center.
Don’t miss it.

Chasing Rainbows 4

You will have to scroll down to see this entire L O N G piece in it’s entirety and glorious colors.
image
I am loving creating these pieces with the satin stitching done with shiny rayon thread.
I start with a piece of dyed fabric I have created with shibori, ice dyeing or any other technique. The base for this particular piece was created with one of my ice dyed fabrics.
Each piece I have created is done with a different design/color idea.
Yes, they take a long time to do the stitching. I work no more than 1/2 hour at a time which means I need many days just to do the stitching to create a piece.
The assembly and finishing also are time consuming.
I have gone back to my roots to finish the edges as a double binding is the perfect edge finish for these pieces.

A Sneak Peak At A New Version

image
This is less the 1/4 of a new piece I am working on. The base is one of my ice dyes.
I am using shiny rayon thread to do the satin stitching. I must have at least 200 HUGE cones of this thread. Some of them are so close in color. It is a variation on the pieces I’ve done before with straight satin stitching on the surface.
Using the cones takes a lot more time than using small spools as they need to be handled more carefully. I am loving the effect I am getting with the wandering lines.
I am always excited as I enjoy each more variation on a theme more than the previous one.

My 4 Most Recent Afghans

image
These are some of my most recent afghan finishes.
I have been enjoying knitting these for a long time, but this year I have finished 7 of the 14 I have made. Number 15 is almost done.
It is a very relaxing activity and doesn’t require any attention to a pattern as I knit.
But the thing I think I like best is how I can combine various colors of yarn that are perfect for the home of the recipient.
Fortunately I have a large collection of yarns in almost any color I need. I not only rely on color but also texture as that makes these so tactile and warm.’'

Another Finish

image
I have finished so many of the pieces for my show recently. I finished 14 good sized pieces in June. I surprised myself that I was able to get this many finished.
If you ask me which is my favorite it would be impossible to answer. Like my children and grandchildren, I can’t pick a favorite. Sometimes the one I am working on is my favorite while I am working on it and I see the hidden images.
As the ”Queen of Ice” I am sometimes awed by my own work.
I’ll be sharing a Save The Date post soon for my show opening in January 2017.

Moving In

image
This truck was full from front to back and all the way to the top when they started unloading. You can see hiding dealing with a drawer. Brother Jeff is carrying yet another box.
image
This just shows some of the furniture they are storing in the garage. You can see Nate and Heidi is this picture. What you can’t see is all the boxes behind the furniture and all over inside the house.
image
Heidi did a great job sweeping out the empty truck.
Heidi and Nate will be staying her until they find a house to buy. The one they had planned on buying fell through after the inspection had too many things wrong with it.
I’ll enjoy their company.

Family Farewell 2

image
The rest of the family was here for a visit and left early on the 5th. It was great to see all of them.
We got to visit the extended family at Bill & Mary’s on the lake. I think they had the biggest group ever. My intention was to photograph everyone and it didn’t happen as there were just too many all over the house, outside, in the water and on boat rides. It was good to see everyone.
image
Oliver, the escape artist, was happy he got to go along home. He gets uncomfortable each time he sees them leaving as there are some places they visit where dogs aren’t allowed.
image
Yes, they really were on their way early as Nicholas had to be to work in Madison by noon. The arrived home in MN by 5 p.m.
Family time is the best.
Stay tuned for the next installment of family that arrived!

Farewell Picture

image
My granddaughter Jessica and her friend Kevin arrived at 8:30 last night and we headed straight to Seiberts Pub for a late dinner….delicious as always. Kevin got to experience the world’s best and biggest Rueben sandwich and he was able to eat the WHOLE thing.
We sat up and talked until way after midnight.
This morning they went to Glaze and ordered the kringles for the family get together tomorrow. They brought home a delicious coffee cake that I am going to have a hard time staying away from.
They headed out by 10:30 this morning to visit Jessica’s other grandma and to go to the beach in Fontana to swim if it gets warm enough of at least walk along the beach.
From there they’ll be heading north to spend time with Kevin’s family.
They sure know how to pack a lot of visiting in a short time as Jessica works on the 4th.
